How To Be A Star ?

Forget about the nightlife

Forget about the nightlife

This may not be true of all aspiring actors, but many do get terribly enamored by the late night parties, the drinking, dating and night out culture that pervades the film world. While this kind of lifestyle may seem like all fun and frolic, if one were to scratch the surface, one would notice that there really is not much to it.
People get into fights under the influence of alcohol, say things they regret later, misbehave with one another and often create a bad reputation for oneself. This leads responsible film makers to avoid them as trouble makers and not give them work. Besides, this kind of lifestyle is not even good for one’s health and looks, two of an actor’s biggest assets.
If one were to take a leaf out of the life of the stalwarts of the Hindi film industry, one will see that they have hardly been the partying type. On the contrary they lead highly disciplined and sober lives. They, regardless of whether they are thirty or seventy get up early in the morning and exercise in the gym. Chances are they may be teetotalers and vegetarian and non smokers!
They may go to the occasional party and be much appreciated in the industry for being thorough professionals that they are. Partying, late nights and drinking are certainly not on their menu. There are those who might turn around and point out the cases of other stars who lead anything but disciplined lives, but they usually do end up paying the price for their indiscipline; sooner or later.
This is not to say that they are not loved and adored by their millions of fans. They are but there is sadness in their lives that could have been easily avoided. Aspiring actors would do well to remember that acting is a profession like any other and what you see on screen doesn’t necessarily correspond to how one actually lives one life. There are those who can’t make that distinction and more often than not their life ends up being sad and lonely.
In the past there have been superstars who had the whole world at their feet. The best movies and costars, a wonderful family and a great house to live in were theirs. Yet they squandered it all. The reason could have been anything- a temperamental nature, a drinking habit or the inability to cope with the pressures of stardom.
Remember that if you plan to make it big in the film world, it will have to be through hard work, discipline and above all sacrifice. If you spend your youth drinking and partying away, you contemporaries will steal a march over you. There have been many gifted actors; star-children included who have frittered away the advantages of a dream launch due to their undisciplined ways, even while their more focused contemporaries who had none of their advantages stole a march over them.
Life gives a more or less equal opportunity to everyone. It’s what we make of these opportunities that will determine who we become a mere party animal or the heartthrob of the nation.
