Avoid picking up bad habits like smoking and drinking

There’s an old English saying that goes early to bed, early to rise makes you healthy, wealthy and wise. What it essentially describes is a formula of living one’s life successfully, irrespective of the profession one might follow.
For aspiring actors who face all manner of temptation, this saying can be their Holy Grail or mool mantra to achieving success. In a profession where competition is the name of the game, and new aspirants pour into Mumbai city everyday to make a name for themselves in the movie business, it is only those who are resolute and steadfast in their commitment to succeed, who actually do so.
Those who get carried away by the glamour and the glitz and take to smoking, drinking and worst of all drugs; will fall by the wayside with nobody casting a second glance at them. There are some glaring real life examples in the Indian movie industry to prove this contention.
In any case the present era in the Indian film industry is one where fitness is the essential prerequisite to achieving success. All the new kids on the block are super fit. It is not that they are teetotalers or any such thing, and don’t enjoy an occasional drink or smoke; but they are essentially disciplined in their commitment to fitness and good health and will do nothing to jeopardize that.
This is the era in which an established superstar can train for months to attain a muscular look for a movie or train like an Olympic athlete for a part. Aspiring actors who are given to boozing and doing drugs don’t stand a chance in competing against their more disciplined and focused counterparts.
The most successful superstar of the Indian film industry are living testimony to the fact that sober and disciplined living and not having any vices or addictions is the surest path to success. Gone are the days when smoking and drinking were style statements by which film stars were recognized.
There are a number of role-models in the film industry that the young people can follow. Someone who is not fond of either smoking and drinking, follows a strict exercise and diet regimen and goes to bed early and rises early and in spite of being in one’s forties has the stamina of a man half his age will definitely inspire admiration.
In Hollywood too there are stars in their fifties who able to pull off the most incredibly dangerous stunts with consummate ease. This is because like their Indian counterparts these stalwarts too lead extremely disciplined lives. That means saying no to smoking and drinking and eating right and taking care of oneself in every possible way.
That is how they manage to look the way they do at their age and happen to be amongst the biggest superstars in the world. With so much to gain by not succumbing to the lure of bad habits like smoking and drinking, and so little to achieve by indulging in them any serious contender for a place in the movies would know which choice to make.
